Wat zijn CZ diamanten?
Cubic Zirconia (CZ) – zirkoniumoxide. Cubic Zirconia, ook wel bekend als zirconia/ zirkonia is één van de meest gebruikte imitaties in de wereld van sieraden. Deze synthetische imitatie verscheen rond 1976 op de markt in tal van kleuren en grote hoeveelheden.
Wat is de waarde van zirkonia?
Doordat zirkonia een synthetische edelsteen is en in grote getale wordt geproduceerd, is de waarde niet erg hoog. Het is vooral de bewerking van zirkonia die ervoor zorgt dat het sieraad, waarin zirkonia is verwerkt, kostbaarder wordt. Diamanten zijn als ruwe steen al erg zeldzaam.
Wat zijn CZ steentjes?
Zirconia is een kunstmatige kristal en wordt dus door de mens zelf gemaakt. Een geslepen zirconia steen heeft relatief ronde randen ten opzichte van bijvoorbeeld diamant. Hardheid : Een CZ heeft een wetenschappelijke hardheid notering van 8.5 op de Mohs’ schaal.
Wat lijkt op diamant?
Zirkonia (of “cubic zirconia”) is de meest populaire kunstmatige steen. Het lijkt het meeste op de diamant, omdat het een vergelijkbare glans heeft en ook sprankelt als je het tegen het licht houdt. Daarnaast is zirkonia ook met diamant te vergelijken doordat het allebei sterke en harde stenen zijn.
Hoe zie je het verschil tussen glas en diamant?
“Ze glinsteren wel, maar dat is meer een grijze kleur. Als je regenboogkleuren in de steen zelf ziet is dat een teken dat het geen echte diamant is.” Soms kunnen glas, kwarts en zirkonika de glans van een diamant wel nabootsen, maar ze kunnen licht nooit net zo sterk breken.
Is cubic zirconia a good choice for jewelry?

Both faux diamonds and real diamonds can scratch the surface. Some people used to think this was a good test, but it’s actually not a valid method.
What is the refractive index of cubic zirconia?
Cubic zirconia contains no true brilliance or fire. It has a much lower refractive index—between 2.15 – 2.18, compared with 2.42 for diamonds. Light passes through cubic zirconia much differently—offering significantly less reflection back to the eye.
