How do you pay for Muni trains?
To take a trip on the Muni Metro, a ticket will cost $2.25 for most people. Children and senior citizens get a discounted ride of $1.00. When you buy your ticket with cash, you will need to enter the train in the front car. The farebox will be up at the front of the train.
How long does Muni ticket last?
120 minutes
A single ride fare on Muni is good for 120 minutes of travel, whether it be on a single route or a trip with multiple transfers across buses and light rail. You can save up to $0.50 per trip by paying with a Clipper® card or MuniMobile.

Provides free access to Muni services for all youth, ages 18 years and under, regardless of income or residency. Effective August 15, 2021 the Free Muni program will be extended to all youth ages 18 years and under.
Is Muni free for teens?
The SFMTA has expanded the Free Muni for Low- and Moderate-Income Youth to all youth 18 years and younger, regardless of household income level. Youth 16 and above are encouraged to carry a student ID or other form of ID for age verification.
Can you pay Muni with Clipper card?
Muni accepts the following on a Clipper card: You need a cash value balance of at least $2 on an adult Clipper card to board. You need $1.25 on a Senior or RTC Clipper card to board if you are paying with cash value.
