Waar proeft cognac naar?
Cognac begint als vrij neutraal alcoholhoudend water, en krijgt zijn smaak van de eikenhouten vaten waarin het gelagerd wordt. Je zou dus kunnen zeggen dat cognac smaakt naar alcohol en eikenhout. Toch is dat een beetje te kort door de bocht. Er zijn veel soorten cognac met veel smaaknuances.

Om echt te begrijpen welk aroma Cognac heeft, is het nodig te onderscheiden wat we eigenlijk met aroma bedoelen. Want, in tegenstelling tot wat vaak wordt gedacht, zijn smaak en aroma eigenlijk twee verschillende dingen.

Jonge Cognac kun je prima in een mix gebruiken, oudere Cognac hoor je puur te drinken. Cognac serveer je op kamertemperatuur. Zorg voor een tulpvormig glas zodat niet alle aroma’s direct uit de drank verdwijnen. Drink Cognac vooral heel erg langzaam.
Wat is er lekker bij Cognac?
Vul een groot glas met ijsklontjes en schenk hier de cognac in. Vul dit aan met limoensap en voeg ongeveer drie scheutjes van een bittertje toe, mits jij hier van houdt. Je kan als bittertje kiezen voor Angostura, maar uiteraard ook voor iets anders.
Welke cognac is goed?
Koop minstens een VSOP, maar persoonlijk zou ik voor een Napoléon of XO gaan. Een blend van één van de bekendere merken is zeker niet slecht. Maar als je een kleiner merk kunt vinden uit de regio Grande champagne of Petite champagne, dan zal dat meestal goed uitpakken en het is natuurlijk avontuurlijker.
