Who is fredfred in A Christmas Carol?
Fred is Scrooge’s nephew, the only son of Scrooge’s much loved sister, Fan. He is the antithesis of Scrooge, demonstrating how we should behave towards one another.

Dickens intention for this technique may have been to remind the reader that Scrooge and Fred are blood relatives; therefore they should have a familial connection. This is extremely ironic considering the way Scrooge communicates with his ‘nephew’ by calling him ‘poor enough’.
