Can Android be closed source?
Yes there are. Some parts of the OS (like Drivers and Preloaded Apps) which are developed by device/hardware makers are closed source while the main OS is open source. As far as I know, the system launcher and UI like MIUI or TouchWiz Home is also closed source. Definitely.
