Waar staat de heilige moskee?
Al-Masjid al-Haram (Ar: المسجد الحرام) is de grote moskee in de Saoedische stad Mekka. In deze moskee bevindt zich de Ka’aba. De Ka’aba is volgens de islamitische overlevering het eerste gebedshuis ter wereld. Deze moskee is ook bekend onder de naam Haram en Haram Sharif.
Waar moet een moskee aan voldoen?
De galerij is niet in iedere moskee aanwezig. In de meeste Turkse of Arabische moskeeën zitten de vrouwen achteraan of in een aparte ruimte. Bij het binnenkomen van de moskee moet iedereen zijn schoenen uitdoen. In sommige moskeeën staan schoenenrekken, maar vaak staan de schoenen aan de zijkant van de ingang.
Waar komt moskee vandaan?
Een moskee (Arabisch: مسجد, masdjid vaak ook gespeld als masjid = plaats van nederwerping) is een gebedshuis binnen de islam. Het huis naast het huis van Mohammed in Medina wordt als de eerste moskee beschouwd. In een moskee vinden religieuze bijeenkomsten plaats.
