What is the Masuda method?
The method is named after Game Freak director Junichi Masuda, who programmed it into Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. He documented the method in his blog, where he mentioned a way that “rare colored Pokémon’s Egg can be found little easier.”. The mechanics behind the method were discovered by Smogon.

Why can’t you use the Masuda method with The Everstone?
In Generation IV only, if the Masuda method applies, the Everstone will fail to increase the chance of passing on a Nature. This is due to Nature and Shininess both being determined by the Pokémon’s personality value in Generation IV, so manipulating one would interfere with the other.
Why doesn’t the Masuda method work on Pokémon with different languages?
If both Pokémon are foreign to the language the game is being played in but are both of the same language, then the Masuda method will not take effect.

Does the Masuda method work with Charmander and Ditto?
No. The two Pokemon left in the Nursery need to be from different regions so if you have FRE Charmander and a JPN Ditto it will allow the Masuda Method to work, if you have a JPN Charmander and a JPN Ditto on an English game it still will not work as the Pokemon are the from the same region.
The Masuda Method is for you! At least one Pokémon foreign to your region (this is noted by a regional abbreviation on the Pokémon’s status screen, like JPN for Japan) A foreign-region Ditto makes stuff like this really efficient in that you can work it with Pokémon of any gender
