Unlike some animals, your new mate would happily raise your current pups with you (rather than kill them). There are no NPC mates in multiplayer. In the single player Amethyst Mountain episode, you will choose another friendly dispersal wolf to be your mate.
How does multiplayer work in WolfQuest?
WolfQuest multiplayer allows players to enjoy the online cooperative WolfQuest experience. The host chooses the gameplay and up to eight players join the game. Player wolves can’t harm each other. However, NPC rival wolves and packs are a challenge. In multiplayer, there are no designated player parents.

As an elder wolf, the mate has a small chance of dying in every time they sleep. Unlike player elder wolves, mates do not lose 1 point in every attribute while as an elder wolf. Having a mate who is 5+ years old generally results in a smaller litter than if they were younger. This also applies to players who are the older wolf in the pair.
