Are Boston Islands Open?
Spectacle and Georges Islands will be open for visitation in the 2021 season. Thompson Island is closed to visitation, except for those participating in Outward Bound programming. Worlds End is open by advance reservation only. Park moorings are open by reservation.

Can you go to Georges Island on your own?
Masks are required while on board the ferry and when visiting indoor public spaces, including the tunnels. There are two ways to visit Georges Island: Take the ferry to Georges Island with Murphy’s on the Water. Travel to the island by private boat, canoe, or kayak.

Does Spectacle Island have bathrooms?
Restrooms will be available on both Spectacle and Georges Islands during ferry operation hours. The Spectacle Island beach is unguarded. Swimming is at your own risk. Swimming is only permitted at the west beach, to the left of the pier as you walk onto the island from the ferry.
What was Georges Island used for?
Its role was to protect the fledgling settlement of Halifax from a sea attack. Georges Island was also used as a prison in the early years. During the years of the Acadian Deportation (1755-1763), the island became a holding area for large numbers of Acadians.
