Does El Capitan have a waterfall?
It falls off of the east side of El Capitan and is best seen from just east of El Capitan. To see Horsetail Fall, park at the El Capitan picnic area (on Northside Drive west of Yosemite Valley Lodge) or in turnouts just east of the picnic area. You can see the waterfall from the road.
Is Half Dome the same as El Capitan?
They appear as tiny dots moving along El Capitan’s seemingly sheer surface. By far the most photographed spot in the park is Tunnel View, which frames Yosemite Valley to perfection, El Cap standing tall to the left, Half Dome in the center, and Bridalveil Fall to the right.
Is El Capitan in Yosemite open?
Anytime, really. El Capitan is located in Yosemite Valley and is therefore accessible year-round, and majestic in all seasons. For photography, stormy winter days often produce the most interesting light, with dramatic clouds swirling about the cliff face. This is true for many of Yosemite’s cliffs and large features.
Can you drink Yosemite Falls water?
Our water is perfectly safe to drink, bath and swim in, but we recommend that you bring bottled water for drinking, due to the fact that our water has a high mineral content.

Can you see El Capitan from the road?
As it approaches Yosemite Valley, turnouts along the Big Oak Flat Road (continuation of Highway 120 to Yosemite Valley) near the tunnels provide a great view of El Capitan and Half Dome, along with a glimpse of the Merced River far below. You can also see Yosemite Falls nearby.
Can you hike El Capitan?
The El Capitan Trail is a 15 mile hike in Yosemite National Park that drops you off at the top of El Capitan, offering stunning views of Taft Point, Dewey Point, Half Dome, Clouds Rest, and North Dome. The hike is difficult but rewarding, offering views that can hardly be matched anywhere else.

Can I sleep in my car in Yosemite?
Within Yosemite National Park, you may not sleep in your car or RV except in a campsite that you’re registered to stay in (except at Camp 4, where sleeping in cars is not allowed because it’s a walk-in campground). Sleeping in your car along the side of the road is not allowed.
