Hoe ontstaat acetaldehyde?
Alcohol wordt in het menselijk lichaam afgebroken tot aceetaldehyde door het enzym alcoholdehydrogenase; aceetaldehyde is dus een tussenproduct in de afbraak van alcohol. Vervolgens wordt aceetaldehyde in verschillende stappen omgezet in de onschadelijke stof acetaat door het enzym aldehyde-dehydrogenase.
Wat doet acetaldehyde?
De chemische benaming voor alcohol is ethanol. Allereerst wordt de ethanol in je lever afgebroken en omgezet in acetaldehyde, dat door je lichaam herkend wordt als giftige stof. Als dit gebeurt, blijft de extra alcohol in je lichaamsweefsel en je bloedsomloop totdat je lever het kan verwerken.
