How does Caltrain work?
Caltrain is a proof-of-purchase system. Passengers must have a valid ticket before boarding the train and must show their ticket to a conductor or fare inspector upon request. Those without a valid ticket may be cited and fined. Tickets aren’t sold on the train.
Where does Caltrain start and end in San Jose?
Caltrain (reporting mark JPBX) is a California commuter rail line in the Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley) and the San Francisco Peninsula. The southern terminus is in San Jose at Tamien station with weekday rush hour service running as far as Gilroy. The northern terminus of the line is in San Francisco at 4th and King Streets.
How many trains does Caltrain have per day?
On January 1, 2011, Caltrain cut four midday trains but upgraded four weekend trains to Baby Bullet service as a pilot program. This reduced its schedule from 90 to 86 trains each weekday. At the same time, it raised fares $0.25 and continued to contemplate cutting weekday service to 48 trains during commute hours only.
