How does Lifelink work in combat?
If a creature has lifelink, any amount of damage it deals allows its controller to gain that much life. And that’s any damage: combat and non-combat damage alike. So, if your creature with lifelink “fights” another creature outside of combat or deals damage via an activated ability, you’ll still gain the life!
Does preventing combat damage stop Lifelink?
Prevented damage is never dealt, and Lifelink is contingent on damage being dealt.
Does Lifelink apply fighting?
Deathtouch and Lifelink, in particular, apply to any damage the creature deals, including through Fight.
What is considered combat damage?
Combat damage is damage that creatures deal to one another or to defending players/planeswalkers during the combat damage step. Damage caused by spells or abilities is NOT combat damage.
Does Lifelink happen after damage?
Lifelink persists regardless of where a creature might be when they deal damage. If there is a niche card or ability that has a creature dealing damage from your hand, library, or graveyard, that damage dealt will still result in life gain.
Does Lifelink work on defense?
Yes. It is still dealing 6 damage so you still gain 6 life. Question those who don’t question authority.
How much life do you gain with Lifelink?
Lifelink means that as a creature does damage, you will gain life equal to the damage. The creature does 11 damage to the 1 toughness creature, so you gain 11 life.
Does fight Damage stay MTG?
Damage dealt while fighting is not combat damage, so abilities like first strike or Double strike won’t have any effect. Fighting itself does not cause the creatures to become tapped. Only creatures can fight. No more than two creatures can fight.
Is blocking combat damage?
A blocking creature assigns combat damage among the attacking creatures it blocks, which is one creature except in the case of certain abilities. Attacking creatures that are blocked but have the blocking creature removed from combat before the Damage Assignment Step deal no combat damage.
Does destroy count as non combat damage?
Damage is one of the ways a creature can be destroyed, but it’s not the only way. The Wanderer only prevents (non-combat) damage, not other “destroy” effects like Doom Blade. 701.7a To destroy a permanent, move it from the battlefield to its owner’s graveyard.

How does Lifelink work?
With lifelink, you gain life equal to the amount of damage done by the creature with lifelink. This includes combat damage, direct damage and indirect damage. Example: If a Prodigal Sorcerer has lifelink and gets tapped to do one damage to target creature, it’s controller would gain one life.
Do you gain Lifelink when doing damage with a creature?
Yes, you have. When a creature with lifelink does damage, you gain life equal to that creature’s power, since that is how much damage it deals (outside of a few corner cases).
How does double strike work with Lifelink?
A lifelink creature with double strike deals damage twice during combat. As long as damage is dealt, each instance of damage will make its controller gain that much life. If a 2/2 lifelinker with double strike is attacking and deals damage twice, you gain four life.
