How similar are Akuma and bison to each other?
They may be different in a few key ways, but at their core, these two share a lot of traits. While Akuma is a fantastic villain primarily because of how similar he is to Ryu, Bison is great because he’s so different. Bison is a man off the deep end who is full of Greed.
What’s the story behind Gouken and Akuma?
Akuma’s creation (and, indirectly, Gouken ‘s) was inspired by an April Fools’ joke published by the gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly. Said hoax involved a “secret trick” for the original version of Street Fighter II that would allow players to fight Ryu and Ken’s supposed master, Sheng Long (based on Ryu’s mistranslated win quote.)
Is Akuma possessed by a demon?
Capcom USA initially claimed Akuma was possessed by a demon, a detail that has not been reused since his first appearance; the character’s name change from Gouki to Akuma for localization reflects Capcom USA’s attempt to accentuate the demonic nature, as the word akuma (悪魔) means “devil” in Japanese.
What kind of GI does Akuma wear?
Akuma usually wears a dark-colored gi with the sleeves removed (similar to Ken and Ryu); it is often blue, black, or gray, but varies depending on the series or artwork. He has red hair with a topknot, sharp, pointed teeth, and is often bare-footed, though some games have him wearing brown sandals.
Why is Akuma so good at fighting?
Akuma is dedicated to training and fighting at all times. A lot of the “lore” of Street Fighter revolves around Ryu’s fight against this power he has called the Satsui No Hado. It’s the power that fuels Akuma but it is also the same power that makes him evil.
Why is bison considered a good villain?
While Akuma is a fantastic villain primarily because of how similar he is to Ryu, Bison is great because he’s so different. Bison is a man off the deep end who is full of Greed. He likes material goods, he uses supernatural abilities over mastery of martial arts, and he’s incredibly evil.
