Is silicone schadelijk?
Siliconen zijn gemaakt van onschadelijke, gifvrije materialen. Het lijkt op plastic, maar bevat geen BPA, weekmakers, pvc of andere schadelijke materialen. Je kunt siliconen gebruiken in de keuken, aan tafel, in de koelkast of vriezer en in de oven of magnetron (let op boven de 150°C en nooit boven de 200°C).
Is Cyclopentasiloxane schadelijk?
Het grote nadeel is echter dat siliconen alleen goed uit je haar te verwijderen zijn met een agressieve zeepsoort, zoals SLS of SLES. Bij het wassen komen deze altijd in aanraking met je hoofdhuid, wat je huid en haar beschadigt. Deze agressieve zeepsoorten kun je beter vermijden.
Is silicone sterk?
Zonder nu de hele scheikundige formule te gaan weergeven kan je zeggen dat siliconen gemaakt zijn van zeer fijn gemalen kiezel (zand) en zuurstof. Het materiaal heeft bijzondere eigenschappen; bestand tegen – 40 tot en met +250 graden Celsius. Het is stroef, sterk, flexibel en kan tegen de meeste schoonmaakmiddelen.
Is siliconen kunststof?
Siliconen is een verbinding van silicium, koolstof en zuurstof waar onder andere siliconenrubber van gemaakt kan worden. Siliconenrubber is onbreekbaar materiaal. Siliconen is niet hetzelfde als plastic, want plastic is gemaakt van andere chemische stoffen.
Is silicone rubber radiation resistant?
Common silicone rubber (dimethyl silicone rubber) really has no better radiation resistance than other organic rubbers. Methylphenyl silicone rubber, which features phenyl groups added to the polymer molecules, resists radiation and is used in the manufacturing of the cables and connectors used in nuclear power plants.

Silicone rubber compounds have characteristics of both inorganic and organic materials, and offer a number of advantages not found in other organic rubbers. Silicone rubbers have fine electrical properties, good chemical stability and flame retardancy, and superior resistance to heat and cold.
What is the temperature resistance of silicone?
Silicone rubbers are thus suitable as a material for rubber components used in high temperature environments. Silicone rubber also has excellent resistance to cold temperatures. The embrittlement point of typical organic rubbers is between -20° and -30°C, compared to -60° to -70°C for silicone rubbers.
What does silicone sealant look like?
Typically, it looks, feels, and acts like a gel. It has a different chemical make-up from other organic polymer-based adhesives. Unlike other adhesives, silicone keeps its elasticity and stability in both high and low temperatures. Furthermore, silicone sealant is resistant to other chemicals, moisture, and weathering.
