Doom treats DM and coop spawned weapons exactly the same. Zdoom has not changed this behavior for the old doom map format. I grew up playing Doom 2 coop.
Why is there a LAN party in Doom 3?
Doom was based on co-op play it practically gave birth to the LAN party and was the god father of any co-op based game that came after it. This is a cheap way for them to sell an add on in another year or another game.

How do I play Doom games on Steam?
