Waar speelt de Syrische burgeroorlog zich af?
De oorlog speelt zich voornamelijk af in het oosten van het land. Sinds 2014 begon terreurgroep Islamitische Staat zelf in Syrië te opereren en de terreurbeweging kreeg al grote delen van Syrië in handen. De Syrische overheid en de gewapende oppositie streden dus tegen Islamitische Staat maar ook tegen elkaar.
Wat is de huidige situatie in Syrië?
Tegenwoordig zijn er in totaal meer dan 13 miljoen Syriërs op de vlucht. 6,7 miljoen Syriërs zijn ontheemd in hun eigen land. Daarnaast vluchtten zo’n 6,7 miljoen Syriërs het land uit. Vier van de vijf Syrische vluchtelingen wereldwijd (meer dan 5,5 miljoen mensen) wonen in de regio, in landen in de buurt van Syrië.
Wat is de oorzaak van het conflict in Syrië?
Het begin van het conflict Inwoners klagen over de hoge werkloosheid, de corruptie en het niet hebben van politieke vrijheid. Om deze demonstraties tegen te gaan wordt er geschoten op burgers. In juli beginnen protesterende burgers terug te schieten en stapt een deel van het leger op om zich bij de oppositie te voegen.
Is het nog oorlog in Syrië?
De oorlog is pas voorbij als de laatste soldaat begraven is. Het is in Syrië op dit moment natuurlijk niet zo heftig als tijdens de slag om Aleppo of de gifgasaanvallen in Oost-Ghouta, maar er wordt nog altijd gevochten.
