Hoe ontstond Art Nouveau?
De Art Nouveau kunststroming vloeide voort uit de arts-and-craftsbeweging en bloeide op in Europa tussen circa 1890 tot 1910. Doordat Art Nouveau in verschillende landen in Europa populair werd, zijn er verschillende regionale en soms zelfs lokale benamingen voor deze kunststijl ontstaan.
Is Jugendstil hetzelfde als Art Nouveau?
Ze stonden echter allemaal voor hetzelfde: deze stijl is modern, is nieuw, is jeugdig. Zo staat de jugendstil in Frankrijk en België bekend onder de naam art nouveau. In Nederland wordt naast jugendstil en art nouveau ook wel de term ‘nieuwe kunst’ gebezigd.

Art déco betekent decoratieve kunst; naam van een stijl (1) in de toegepaste kunst. Kenmerken: decoratieve stijl in de verfraaiing van de architectuur; de nadruk ligt op versiering; fel kleurgebruik o.i.v. het expressionisme; abstractie o.i.v. het kubisme; vaak een mengeling van allerlei stijlen uit het verleden.
