Herkomst. Gerbera’s komen oorspronkelijk uit exotische landen als Zuid-Afrika, Azië, Zuid-Amerika en Tasmanië. In 1737 ontdekte Gronovius, een botanicus uit leiden, een gerberaplant. De gerbera heeft zijn naam te danken aan de achternaam van Gronovius collega, de Duitse arts Gerber.
