Wat zijn de symptomen van CMV?
Bij een CMV infectie treden meestal geen klachten op. Het is mogelijk dat koorts en algemeen ziek voelen zich voordoen. In zeldzame gevallen kan een ziektebeeld ontstaan dat lijkt op pfeiffer: met koorts, lymfekliervergroting, algemeen ziek voelen en afwijkingen in de lever functie.
Hoe besmettelijk is CMV?
Cytomegalie (CMV) is een milde besmettelijke ziekte. Mensen krijgen het door een virus: het cytomegalovirus.
Hoe CMV testen?
Zo weten we of je tijdens de zwangerschap een eerste CMV-infectie hebt doorgemaakt (seroconversie). Na de bevalling wordt bij elke pasgeborene, ongeacht de immuunstatus van de moeder, CMV in het speeksel opgespoord. Dat speeksel nemen we af door met een borsteltje (wisser) over de binnenkant van de wang te wrijven.
Wat is CMV positief?
Wanneer er geen IgM-antistoffen aanwezig zijn, maar wel IgG-antistoffen, dan is iemand CMV-positief. Dat betekent dat hij/zij in het verleden een CMV-infectie heeft gehad, maar niet acuut besmet is. Bij de aanwezigheid van IgM- en IgG-antistoffen is er sprake van een acute besmetting.

A positive test for CMV IgG indicates that a person was infected with CMV at some time during their life but does not indicate when a person was infected. This applies for persons ≥12 months of age when maternal antibodies are no longer present.
What does CMV cause?
Occasionally, CMV can cause mononucleosis or hepatitis (liver problem). People with weakened immune systems who get CMV can have more serious symptoms affecting the eyes, lungs, liver, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Babies born with CMV can have brain, liver, spleen, lung, and growth problems.
What is CMV when pregnant?

More than half of adults have been infected with CMV by age 40 but most don’t know they’ve been infected. Once you’re infected with CMV, it stays in your body for the rest of your life.
Can you have a healthy pregnancy with CMV?
You can pass CMV to your baby If you are pregnant and have CMV, the virus in your blood can cross through your placenta and infect your developing baby. This is more likely to happen if you have a frst-time CMV infection while pregnant but can also happen if you have a subsequent infection during pregnancy.
