What is the best role for an artificer?
They excel as a Support character, but make decent Defenders, Healers, and Strikers, too. With the right infusions and spells, they can fill nearly any role in the party, making the Artificer’s versatility rival that of the Bard.
What is an artificer in DND?
Artificers are a spellcasting class, similar to a paladin or ranger. They gain access to new spell levels at half the rate that “full casters” like clerics, druids, and wizards do, but they make up for it by having a host of powerful class features to supplement their spellcasting.
How does artificer spellcasting work?
You produce your artificer spell effects through your tools. You must have a spellcasting focus-specifically thieves’ tools or some kind of artisan’s tool-in hand when you cast any spell with this Spellcasting feature. You must be proficient with the tool to use it in this way.
Can artificers use magic items as spell foci?
The only spell foci an artificer can use are tools or infused items, and magic items can’t be infused. That said, if you come across, say, a Wand of the War Mage +3, you can still gain the bonus to spell attack rolls and ignore half cover, you just can’t use it as a spell focus.

How do you calculate attack and save DC for artificers?
In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for an artificer spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one. Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.
Is sleight of hand worth it as an artificer?
The Artificer’s skills are mostly Intelligence and Wisdom-based, and most are knowledge skills, but Sleight of Hand is an option. You also get three tool proficiencies, which gives you room to tailor your character to the theme you’re going for.
