What type of protocol is OSPF?
OSPF is an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP). In an OSPF network, routers or systems within the same area maintain an identical link-state database that describes the topology of the area.
Is OSPF proprietary protocol?
OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) is perhaps the most popular link state routing protocol. It is an open standard so it can be run on routers produced by different vendors, which is in contrast to EIGRP, a Cisco proprietary protocol that can be run only on Cisco devices.
What is distance vector in OSPF?
Although OSPF operates as a link-state routing protocol within an area, its behavior between areas is predominantly distance vector. If it were to pass summary routes, for example, from area 10 to area 20, those routes would then be passed along by R2 to area 0 and by R1 back into area 10, forming a routing loop.
Which protocols use distance vector routing?
Distance vector routing protocols include the following:
- Routing Information Protocol (RIP) for IP.
- Xerox Networking System’s XNS RIP.
- Novell’s IPX RIP.
- Cisco’s Internet Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP)
- DEC’s DNA Phase IV.
- AppleTalk’s Routing Table Maintenance Protocol (RTMP)
What are the OSPF packet types?
Packet types for OSPF
- Hello packet. This packet is sent by the OMPROUTED server to discover OSPF neighbor routers and to establish bidirectional communications with them.
- Database description packet.
- Link-state update packet.
- Link-state request packet.
- Link-state acknowledgment packet.
Which of the following is not a type of OSPF packet?
Which packet is NOT an OSPF packet type? Explanation: LSU is the Link State Update packet, LSR is the Link State Request packet and DBD is the Database Descriptor packet in OSPF. Query packet is NOT an OSPF packet type.
Is OSPF the best routing protocol?
OSPF only exchanges routing information when there’s a change in network topology. OSPF protocol best fits for complex networks that comprise multiple subnets working to ease network administration and optimize traffic. It effectively calculates the shortest path with minimum network traffic when the change occurs.
What ports does OSPF use?
89 port
Difference between OSPF and BGP
S.NO | OSPF |
---|---|
6. | In OSPF internet protocol is used. |
7. | It works in 89 port number. |
8. | OSPF is a Link State type. |
9. | In OSPF Dijkstra algorithm is used. |
Which protocol is considered a hybrid protocol?
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is considered as a Hybrid Routing Protocol because EIGRP has characteristics of both Distance Vector and Link State Routing Protocols.
