Waar gebruiken ze 110v?

Waarom 110 volt?
Uit veiligheidsoogpunt was Edisons 110 volt zeker een betere keuze, maar de beperkte afstand waarover gelijkstroom slechts kon worden getransporteerd, was wel een gigantisch nadeel. Oorspronkelijk was in Europa 120 V wisselspanning ook gangbaar, net zoals dat vandaag de dag nog het geval is in Japan en Noord-Amerika.

Waarom van 220 naar 230 volt?
In 1989 werd besloten om de hoogte van de spanning te verhogen tot 230 volt. De reden hiervoor was om in Europa tot één niveau voor laagspanning te komen. Op deze manier is het ook makkelijker voor toeristen om stopcontacten in andere Europese landen te gebruiken.
