Is Spray Lakes in a provincial park?
Spray Lakes West Campground is found in Spray Valley Provincial Park, 16 km south of Canmore on the Smith Dorrien/Spray Lakes Trail (Hwy. 742). Once you visit this peaceful campground on the shores of the Spray Lakes Reservoir, you may never want to leave!

Can I swim in Spray Lakes?
Spray Lake is beautiful with clear cold water but we came during an extreme heatwave near the end of June. There were not a lot of people around but those who were there were swimming. There is no cellular service in this area and only outhouses.
Can you boat on Spray Lakes?
Spray Lakes is popular with boats for fishing, less so with recreational boating due to the fairly constant winds that blow up the valley. Power boats are permitted. A boat launch is available at the Driftwood Day Use area.
Who owns Spray Lake?
Adam Noyek, co-owner of Spray Lake Watersports and Activity Centre, sits back in his office chair and reflects, as he looks out over the lake. In the distance, his partners, Jono Boysen and Stephen Collins are hard at work cleaning up the mess the winter has left on their lake front property in King Township.

You can drive the trail in either direction (map below). From Calgary, drive west on Highway 1 for about 50 minutes and turn onto Highway 40. From Canmore, take the Spray Lakes Road to the Smith Dorrien Spray Trail, also known as Highway 742.
Is Spray Lakes frozen?
With a surface area of over 19 square kilometres the beauty of this frozen lake extends nearly into the horizon. Spray Lakes reservoir is located just south of Canmore in Alberta; a quick two hour drive from Calgary, or a solid 11 hour road trip from Vancouver.
Can you skate on Chain Lakes?
This is a lovely smooth straight trail. Most paved trails have spots where they intersect with gravel trails, and there’s always a little crusher dust (tiny gravel) in those areas, but as long as you keep skating, you’ll go right over it. The pavement is in great condition, and there’s rarely even cracks in it.
